J and I were on one of those random stream-of-conscious conversations that people have before falling asleep. We stumbled into talking about music and discovered that neither one of us knows what the hell Michael Hutchence was talking about when he quipped "at 98 we all rotate."
Jazz chanteuse Anita O'Day died over Thanksgiving.
She was cool, crazy, and lived a tough life, filled with addiction and heartbreak. Through it all, she still had a voice that could make even the hardest heart dance.
They just don't make 'em like they used to.
RIP, Miss O'Day. I hope that you're sitting at the great martini lounge in the sky.
Excuse me being a LiveJournal emokiddie (that's for you, Tiff), but I have an amazing Pet Shop Boys song on rotation in my head. E-ron and I caught it live(!!!) on Sunday night.
Fits my life pretty well:
Home and Dry
So my baby's on the road
Doing business, selling loads
Charming everyone there
With the sweetest smile
Oh tonight
I miss you
Oh tonight
I wish you
Could be here with me
But I won't see you
'Til you've made it back again
Home and dry
Home and dry
There's a plane at JFK
To fly you back from far away
All those dark and frantic
Transatlantic miles
Oh tonight
I miss you
Oh tonight
I wish you
Could be here with me
But I won't see you
'Til you've made it back again
Thanks for all the love, fellow Voxers that have landed here as a result of the QOTD!
The wonderful Clark Kent has his iHoroscope up.
And here is Jonathan's (who is not a blogger, sadly):
Going to California - Led Zeppelin 4
Lullaby - Billy Joel

Waiting In Vain - Bob Marley

Jonathan and I discussed music over Indian food last night. He mentioned how he and his friends are fascinated by the first ten songs that come up on the shuffle setting on one's ipod - specifically, what it forecasts about a person's personality. A musical horoscope, if you will.
So, in honor of my fabulous date last night, here goes:
- No One Takes Your Freedom - DJ Earworm (I think)
- Rock Star - Lauren Hoffmann
- Sin Wagon - Dixie Chicks
- 16 Days - Whiskeytown
- In a Big Country - Big Country
- And She Was - Talking Heads
- Sowing the Seeds of Love - Tears for Fears
- Second Hand News - Fleetwood Mac
- If You Only Knew - Jurassic Five
- Isn't She Lovely - Stevie Wonder
Thanks to Ruby13 (ruby13.vox.com) for the idea.

Lily Allen is my new musical hero: smarmy, flirty brithop. If Nellie McKay and The Streets had a kid, it would be Lily Allen.
Relatively unknown in the States, she's massive in the UK. Go listen to "Knock Em Out" and get your groove on. I guarantee, you'll hear her on commercial radio/MTV by Christmas.
What is your favorite cover song?
Question submitted by Ray.
This is going to sound absolutely crazy, but go with it. I recently heard Dolly Parton cover Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" and was blown away. She gives it this lovely, ethereal, almost hymnal quality, and truly brings something new to the classic.
It's crazy, but amazing.
